A Prayer

Ever since I was born,
Always restless have I been;
Always on my two feet,
Always on the look out!

Endlessly and earnestly,
Searching for something;
Hopefully and impatiently,
Waiting for some one!

Something I knew not what,
Someone I knew not who!
Like the scorched flower,
Waiting for a cool shower.

Mastering Music and Maths,
Playing with numbers and words;
Experimenting in Physical sciences,
Excelling in all my deeds.

Transforming lines in to figures,
A palate of paints into pictures,
Did not calm down my unrest,
Despite the length of time I spent!

I slaved like the busy ant,
From every morning to night;
Yet the inner bliss and comfort,
Eluded all my sincere efforts!

Varied reading; stylish writing,
Soulful singing; dreamy dancing,
Tidy Sketching and colorful painting,
Dominated my mind and thinking.

I knew not then, “Why I was born”?
Nor did I wonder, ” Why I was me”!
I knew not then, that I was born,
To strive and find the real ME!

To realize the glory of SELF,
And reunite with HIMSELF;
After eons of painful separation,
In the forms of various creations.

Sad are the decades I have spent,
In various pursuits, I now resent;
I have been a slave to my senses,
Craving for music, art and dances.

These very thoughts make me bitter;
But on second thoughts I feel better;
For all my pursuits in various ways,
Have been God-oriented always!

Perhaps those decades gone by,
Were not wasted by me entirely;
They have helped to settle down,
The disturbed mind deep within.

Made it crystallize and sublimate,
And evolve towards the Ultimate;
May be slowly but quite steadily,
Over those decades, thankfully.

Until I was truly made ready,
To meet my spiritual teacher;
To absorb and assimilate readily,
The wisdom of the preacher.

Words, though sweet as nectar,
Yet are as sharp as a scalpel,
Of a skillful spiritual doctor,
Trained by the ultimate gospel.

Slicing off a few pieces here,
Chopping off another there,
Decisively though delicately,
He carved my mind beautifully.

“A thing of beauty is a joy for ever”,
Had been my motto for ever and ever.
Love for pretty things was my craze,
It has now vanished without a trace!

Now I realize that they were pretty,
And as petty as they were pretty,
God is the only mighty tower,
Of wisdom, beauty and power.

My anger has subsided drastically,
My temper has cooled down wholly,
Traces of ego, born out of success,
Have been removed without traces.

My turbulent mind has by now,
Calmed to a smooth silvery flow;
Stronger and purer than in the past,
Do I feel as the days roll past!

Worthy of HIM I should become,
The lovely God the size of a thumb;
Who hides in our hearts playfully,
The safest hide-out universally!

Let my mind vanish completely,
Like the misty vapors in Sunshine.
Let HIM guide my hand willingly,
He who makes the stars shine!

Let me be an instrument in His hands,
And just a bundle of aches and pains;
May I see only what HE wants me to see,
May I do only what HE wants me to do.

May I speak only what HE wants me to say,
May I hear only what HE wants me to hear;
Nay, nay, it is time to drop the “I” and “mine”,
And be controlled by the Power Divine!

We think that we own the world,
As masters of the things we hoard;
While in truth we do not possess,
Even our very own foolish selves!

Visalakshi Ramani.

    “When I Asked God for Strength
    He Gave Me Difficult Situations to Face

    When I Asked God for Brain & Brown
    He Gave Me Puzzles in Life to Solve

    When I Asked God for Happiness
    He Showed Me Some Unhappy People

    When I Asked God for Wealth
    He Showed Me How to Work Hard

    When I Asked God for Favors
    He Showed Me Opportunities to Work Hard

    When I Asked God for Peace
    He Showed Me How to Help Others

    God Gave Me Nothing I Wanted
    He Gave Me Everything I Needed.”

    • Dear Sir,

      I have read the poem already. God gives us everything we NEED and not everything we WANT!
      If we rally want “what we seem to want”, we will use the “things given by Him” and make the things we want to become a reality!

      Compare a scene in our homes! You want a cup of coffee, but the person in charge of the kitchen just hands over to you coffee powder, milk and sugar and NOT a cup of coffee-for some reason. Surely you will make your cup of coffee- if you really needed it.

      It only shows that we must also put in some effort to achieve what we want to achieve! We should not sit tight and expect to be spoon-fed by God!
      with best wishes,
      Visalakshi Ramani.

    Thank you so much mam. Its so nice to have people like you who continue to inspire us and give us moral support in this ever changing world where it is very easy to lose one’s own identity and culture.

  3. Dear Sir,
    Scientists may or may not approve of a God who maintains a perfect order in the Universe. “Nothing can come out nothing”! There is a supreme power which Generates, Ordains and Destroys-the power called God.
    We live in the world and so we cannot give up the world. We may find it far more easier to give up God!
    But to balance our activities, we must hold on to God with one hand and do our worldly duties with the other hand. Then we will never ever lose our inner peace or identity or culture.
    Changes are inevitable! We have graduated from dhothis to Pants. This is just a change in the exterior. But the innerself should be kept as pure and truthful as possible.
    with best wishes,
    Visalakshi Ramani.

    namasthe dear Mami,

    went through your site , great prayers, certain verses are matching with my own
    life faced all these years , and as rightly said God, really gives us what we need based
    onthe deeds what we perform everyday from morn. to the time we retire @ night.

    The prayer is an eye opener for all those who wish to take the path of truth and
    divinity, which purifies one and lead a graceful life.
    I also went through one of the articles on the Taj Mahal of Britain. No doubt ” Hats
    off to older Architecture and designing. Thanks to you,
    Bye for now ,
    regards,
    E.K. Mohanakrishnan

    • Dear Mr. Mohana Krishnan,
      At last you found time to visit my site! I am surprised you had enough time to go through the long Prayer.
      It is autobiographical in nature. When we surrender to the Higher Power we become free, just like a baby
      trusting its parents and feeling free and happy.
      No wonder you made a bee-line to the ‘Taj Mahal in U.K’. You are an architect by profession 🙂
      Please read more articles and send me your feedback.
      with best wishes,
      Visalakshi Ramani.

  5. Extremely intriguing blog post. Extremely engrossing and excellently written blog post. Thanks once again I will come back.

    • It is autobiographical in nature.
      A lot of Hindu philosophy is blended in it imperceptibly.
      Small wonder that you find it intriguing.
      It explains how a person should move away from the world,
      towards the true self inside him/her and discover it. 🙂

    • It is autobiographical in nature.
      It contains some concepts of Indian Philosophy.
      No wonder you find it intriguing. 🙂
      Welcome to read more posts and my other blogs also.
      The links are given in my home page.

  6. I am curious to find out what blog platform you’re working with? I’m having some small security issues with my latest blog and I’d like to find something more safe. Do you have any recommendations?

  7. Hey! This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept chatting about this. I will forward this post to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read. Thank you for sharing!

    • This 100 line poem is autobiographical in nature.
      I wonder what made your good old room mate chat about this!
      Thank you for your feedback.
      Please visit all my blogs listed in “My blog of blogs!”

  8. Exceptional post however I was wanting to know if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Appreciate it!

    • This is autobiographical in nature.
      It has the higher philosophy of Hinduism fused into it.
      We are supposed to surrender to the Lord unconditionally
      and become mere instruments in his hands.
      The idea is to surrender and become free of worries
      just like the young children who trust their parents
      and live happy and carefree lives. 🙂

  9. At this time it looks like WordPress is the best blogging platform available right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?

  10. diazepam says:

    Needed to compose you a tiny note to finally thank you very much yet again for your personal splendid methods you have discussed above. It is strangely open-handed with people like you to provide publicly all that a number of people would have marketed as an electronic book to generate some bucks for their own end, primarily now that you could possibly have tried it if you ever wanted. These inspiring ideas likewise acted like a fantastic way to know that the rest have the same dreams really like my personal own to see a whole lot more concerning this problem. I’m sure there are thousands of more enjoyable times in the future for many who check out your blog.

    • Thank you for the feedback.
      Money isn’t everything in the world
      though we do need some money to live comfortably.
      “Prayer” is autobiographical in nature with the
      essence of Indian philosophy fused into it.
      We believe in simple living and high thinking.
      We also know that money corrupts the human mind.
      Money gives power and power corrupts the mind even more.
      We are told to hold on to the Lord with one hand
      and hold on to the world with the other hand.
      We can’t let go either of them completely
      as long as we live in this world. 🙂
